This wonderful family have entrusted me with documenting their growing family through photography for the past four years now. Having photographed them 4 times already (maternity and newborn portrait sessions with each of their two kids), I was so honoured to be asked to mark their fifth wedding anniversary with some family and children's portraits at the hotel in the New Forest where they got married, Moorhill House Hotel. It's a lovely, quiet, intimate location tucked away in the middle of the forest so we made use of their wonderful gardens and the glorious sunshine to have some fun. What a happy family.
The past year has been fun and games with a new addition to the family of the four-legged variety - Tinker joined us in almost exactly a year ago so to mark her 'anniversary' I took my camera out on a sun-filled dewy morning walk to capture some images of her. The darn thing moves too fast though, so 'portraits' is rather a loose term - more like trying to nail jelly to the wall. Still, I got these which totally capture her personality....an utterly delightful faster-than-a-speeding-bullet bundle of sock-stealing, slug-eating pure trouble.
I had the immense pleasure of photographing this family at their beautiful family estate near Winchester during the summer, who wanted some lovely natural sunset family portraits in the stunning gardens surrounding their family home while they were visiting from the USA. The Great British weather was fabulously obliging (love it when that happens), and the scene was picture-perfect - all three kids full of beans well into the evening thanks to jetlag. They look like they've popped straight out of Ralph Lauren advert, they could not be more natural if they tried! Enjoy x
I have been very fortunate enough to secure the time of the very lovely, talented and renowned portrait photographer and friend Kate Hopewell-Smith (http://www.katehopewellsmith.com), who tirelessly imparts her extensive knowledge of the industry to help other professional photographers like me build their businesses, brands and skills through her mentoring and training services. It is incredible how a fresh pair of eyes on an environment I use all the time to photograph in can refresh and reinvigorate your creative juices, and I was amazed at the different angles, set-ups and lighting opportunities she was able to create in spots that had never inspired me before. A master at her craft she certainly is.
We had an amazing day here at the studio finding new ways to use the rooms to their best advantage for boudoir photography, and also to trial some new lighting equipment (which to you other photographers out there is the Westcott Skylux, used with beauty dish, strip box and grid...very impressive piece of kit, daylight balanced, 30-100% dimmer, extremely versatile and can highly recommend it's use as a complement to natural light). It marks a shift change in how I approach lighting all my boudoir portrait sessions, no longer relying solely on the vagaries of British weather, and hence light, but able to shape and enhance ambient light that feels realistic and natural. On the flip side, I can use the same light on its own to provide much more angular, flattering light that is so well suited to boudoir photography.
For the day we had the services of two very lovely ladies - Model Julia Kinnear http://www.gingersnap.co.uk/Models/106-3468/Julia.html and Salisbury Make-up Artist Teresa Jolly http://www.teresajolly.co.uk who both worked hard to help create the images you see below.
Much fun was had and Julia was very good natured - even sitting in a chilly empty bath at one point - but the results I think are fantastic and will be coming soon to a boudoir shoot near you!
