Wow - I've just been interviewed on BBC Radio Wiltshire about my charitable work with breast cancer ladies, in light of Angelina Jolie's announcement this morning of her decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy. I hope I managed to get across that although I cannot help with the physical recovery of breast cancer patients, I sincerely hope to aid their emotional recovery by helping them to see beyond their scars and help them accept their new bodies. My desire is to use my photographic skills as a form of therapy to improve and ultimately restore feelings of self-worth, body image and confidence among ladies who have undergone the often brutal and disfiguring treatment that breast cancer requires.
To show you what I mean, here are a few images taken of a breast cancer patient (who, its important to point out, is very happy for me to use her images to highlight what I do). She is two years post-treatment, but I think it's safe to say that emotionally has taken longer to recover than she did physically. She is a former dancer with the English National Ballet and here she shows that she is beautiful, brave, strong, and above all that cancer has not held her back. If you know anyone affected by breast cancer who could do with a boost to their self esteem, send them my way, it won't cost them anything and they'll feel fabulous.
