I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I have been awarded the David Mathias Portrait Award by leading international professional body the Master Photographers Association at the national Master Photography Awards 2013/14 awards last weekend. I was so not expecting to even reach the finalist stage, that I very nearly didn't go to the ceremony - I'd been battling a heavy cold and the atrocious weather we had on Sunday did not make me want to make the drive to Solihull and back just on the offchance! Fortunately Dan pushed me out the door, and boy I'm glad he did!
I had to go through four rounds of judging to reach the final, from a panel of highly respected photographers within the industry, so as my entries slowly got through each round I didn't dare hope to get any further - and when I arrived at the awards, the gallery of all the images achieving an 'award of excellence' contained so many incredible images that I didn't expect to see my entry hanging up there with all the rest!
It was a fabulous event, with over 250 of the country's leading photographers and industry executives all suited & booted for the evening. We were treated to a delicious dinner, speeches and a glittering awards ceremony, so when my name was called out I nearly fell off my chair ;-)
The legendary fashion photographer John Swannell was presenting the prizes, and here I am collecting my award with John (left) and a representative from Towergate Camerasure who sponsored the award (I'm not wearing heels, honest ;-)
I'm absolutely chuffed to bits, and big congratulations to all the other winners - the calibre of the category finalists was absolutely inspiring, and I am so honoured to be included.
